The current building is in disrepair. This provides an opportunity to create a facility that better serves Dewey's expanding uses. Our goals:
Dewey Mt. Friends is working to improve trails and create an attractive gateway for Dewey and Saranac Lake. Tim Burke, biathlete and 2-time Olympian
“I support Dewey because of all the great opportunities it provided me. This was the place I could come not only to ski but to be with friends, meet new people and live a healthy, active lifestyle. That was important to my childhood, and I’d like other kids to have that opportunity as well."
—Tim Burke, honorary trustee, Dewey Mountain Friends Bill Demong, Nordic-combined skier, 4-time Olympian
“I grew up running, skiing and hiking Dewey’s trails. There is no replacement for a venue with such versatility and proximity to town. It has provided me and thousands of others a place to get outdoors. . . . I am so excited at the prospect of creating even more opportunity and utility right in our town.”
—Bill Demong, honorary trustee, Dewey Mountain Friends Dewey Mountain Friends is a grassroots group working to maintain and improve Dewey's trails and facilities in partnership with the Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation and the Town of Harrietstown. Every dollar raised goes directly into capital improvements at Dewey.
Dewey Mountain Comes of Age Dewey Mountain Recreation Center was founded in 1980 by a partnership of the Town of Harrietstown, Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and many dedicated volunteers. Nordic combined skier Billy Demong and biathlete Tim Burke have set American milestones in the Olympics and on the World Cup circuit. Both learned to race at Dewey. Thousands of kids have followed in their tracks, developing a lifelong love of skiing, snowshoeing and fitness. Every winter 50+ kids participate in the learn-to-ski program, while hundreds more use the ski and snowshoe trails. A revitalized facility will anchor the trails for future generations. Dewey Mt. Friends is taking a phased approach as the fiscal climate demands. We are currently refining a lodge schematic plan. Project cost estimate: $500,000. If you would like more information please contact Mary Thill, chairman of Dewey Mountain Friends, (518) 891-1080. Thank you for your consideration!
